Route de Saint-Clar Syrah 2021
Route de Saint-Clar was the first wine produced by Saint-Clar Estate, our small family-owned vineyard at Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills.
The name encapsulates our eclectic journey to France and back, with various sojourns along the way. This wine is the culmination of our many experiences abroad and we hope it can now accompany you on your own adventures.
Winemaking Notes:
Harvested when flavour ripe, this Shiraz was fermented with the inclusion of 20% whole bunches for a period of 8 days with gentle pump-overs before being pressed and transferred to barrel for malo lactic fermentation and then maturation. The wine was matured in French Oak puncheons (500L) and barriques (225L) for a period of 9 months with approximately 15% new oak. The wine was then bottled to capture the floral aromatics and fresh fruit characters as tasted in the vineyard.
Tasting Notes:
The wine shows perfumed aromas of red currant, cherry blossom, pepper and spice notes with hints of red liquorice. The wine is medium bodied and elegant, showing red berry and cherry fruit flavours, along with some spice and pepper. It has a lovely freshness of fruit and line of acidity with fine, silky tannins and a lingering finish.
