Saint-Clar Estate is a family owned, cool climate vineyard located in the Adelaide Hills Geographical Indications (GI) Region
Originally established in 1997, Jon and Melissah purchased the property in 2017 after an extensive search to find a vineyard with the reputation and terroir to produce premium quality fruit, across numerous varietals. The property has 35 hectares of undulating hills including 8 hectares of native bush, with 24 hectares planted out with vines.
Varietals & Terroir
The vineyard has 64,000 vines across 9 grape varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Mencia, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier - planted in North-South orientated rows at an elevation between 300 to 350 metres above sea level.
The soil profile consists of a top layer of red-brown massive fine sandy loam with ironstone nodules, over reddish yellow and red medium clay with strong fine polyhedral structure and ironstone nodules. At depth, the clay is brownish yellow, light grey and red banded medium clay with strong blocky structure and ironstone nodules.
